Q. When is this year’s festival?

A. Steampunk NZ Festival is held annually on King’s Birthday Weekend. In 2024 it is Thursday 30 May to Monday 3 June. 

 

Q. When do tickets go on sale?

A. Tickets are expected to go on sale 5 April 2024.

 

Q. What is the theme for this year?

A. The theme for 2024 is “Botanical Mechanical”. This is a broad theme encompassing all things botanical (maybe the odd animal!) and including and incorporating all things mechanical…conjuring up images of botanical laboratories, terrariums,  mechanical blooms,  explorers and adventurers quests for rare botanical specimens, rare mechanical devices to capture and contain botanical treasures. 

 

Q. What are the competitions for this year?

A.  In 2024 there will be three or four opportunities for creativity – these will be announced when the programme is released around 7 February 2024.

 

Q. I want to book accommodation – what do you recommend?

A. Book early! Book as near to Harbour Street in the Victorian Precinct as you can – within 5 or 6 blocks of this area means you can walk to almost every event during the Festival. Most other accommodation in Oamaru is a just short drive of a few minutes.  Accommodation further out, Kakanui, Teschmakers etc – we suggest contacting your host for transport options in and out each day.
