Unleash your creativity and be a part of something extraordinary at the Steampunk NZ Festival 2025!

We invite all Steampunk tinkerers, artists, and dreamers,

to contribute to a grand collaborative project:

a Steampunk Cabinet of Curiosity.

Popular in Victorian times, Cabinets of Curiosity were originally used to proudly showcase displays of natural wonder, and were an elite form of entertainment. In the Steampunk realm, they have the possibility to contain anything that arouses intrigue and piques interest for both maker and spectators. Astound us all with your own take on the wonders of our Steampunk world!

How to Participate:

Each participant will create a Steampunk Victorian display inside a box. All the participants’ boxes will then be stacked together to make one giant Cabinet of Curiosity. Entry is FREE.

First, Get Your Box...

For the boxes to be formed into a giant Cabinet of Curiosity the box must be a consistent size. Please purchase the following box from any Mitre10 store nationwide. Other size boxes will not be accepted.

Next, Design Your Curiosity...

Transform your box into a unique Steampunk marvel. Let your imagination run wild—gadgets, curios, steam-powered wonders, and Victorian elegance are all welcome.

All switches or batteries may only be accessed from the front of the box – there will be NO access behind and to the sides once the cabinet is formed.
Nothing is to be attached to the outside of the box.
Your design may protrude directly out to the front of the box by up to 140mm but you may not encroach over the edges. Any display that covers the neighbouring boxes display with be 'adjusted'!
You may use the box either portrait or landscape and you must note this on the entry form.

Then, Present Your Entry...

Bring your completed entry to the Steampunk NZ Festival 2025 by 9 AM on Saturday, May 31st. Further instructions and venue for cabinet display will be sent out to entrants closer to the Festival. Judges and Prizes will be advised.
